Dear Friends of the House,

Having just hosted the last resident of the season, we’ve quickly pivoted toward work on the property in anticipation of our next resident in October. Early Fall temperatures will be ideal. Just yesterday, Mentor Board member Kirk Geiger and his colleague Robert started the process of converting our shed into what will serve as a studio and administrative office for the house. We expect the work to continue until about mid June, at which point we’ll be able to free up another room in the house for the use of our residents. That’ll provide two bedrooms along with a room in the house that can be used for writing or composing. This means it’ll be more comfortable for those with children to come and stay. We couldn’t be more thankful to Kirk for volunteering his time and talent.

WORK THAT CONTINUES ON:

Removal of old concrete fixtures in the front yard, returning it to its natural desert state. John Evered continues his work on that.

Finding four blinds for interior windows of the house.

Adding a parking block (railroad tie) for the backyard parking space.

Cleaning up and landscaping the audience area in front of the outside stage.

Cleaning up and landscaping the “Path of Meditation” area on side of house.

Adding 5-6 succulents for the garden.

Organizing and cleaning our materials storage area in the back of the house.

MENTOR PROFILE NOTE:

Did you get a chance to read Mel Smith’s fantastic profile of Mentor Board Member and artist Ace Powell? If not, check it out here at this link, thanks for everything Ace!

DATES TO REMEMBER:

Our next resident dates: October 2021, March 2022, April 2022. If you know of anyone who may want to apply for these slots, have them contact us directly. Remember our mission is to serve ex-military members, those who serve in conflict zones, those who served or continue to serve on the front line of the pandemic and of course, first responders.

Christmas Event, 2021 — We plan on having a Christmas fundraiser, probably on the East Coast. Keep an eye out for more info!

May 1, 2022 — The celebration of the house’s FIFTH YEAR anniversary! We’ll have a small outdoor celebration. Of course you’re invited, please spread the word and save the date!

And finally, we want to remind you to PLEASE sign up for our 200 CAMPAIGN, which is a commitment to giving $10 a month to the house as a recurring donation. It’s the most simple and effective way to help us continue our work. This has been—and continues to be—a hugely challenging year, and a recurring donation like this helps us literally keep the lights on, maintain the property and afford to keep this program going. Your donation is tax deductible and easy to make. SIGNING UP for the campaign is simple:

Simply click on this link here: https://www.everedhouse.org/200-campaign. If you need more specific directions or you have any questions at all, call Mel Smith at 609-439-1910 or write her at mgs122@georgetown.edu

Thank you as ever fantastic friends of the house. We hope you’re having a great early Spring, and look forward to keeping you in the loop over the summer.

Sincerely,
Charles Evered
